Meet Occy - Looking for Her Forever Home
Meet Occy - Looking for Her Forever Home
Breed: large mixed breed (roughly 40kgs) see photos for her DNA test results.
This is a really hard to write, but I’m looking to rehome my beautiful girl Occy due to a significant decline in my health. I’m no longer able to give her the exercise and consistency she needs, and she deserves more than I can currently provide.
Occy is an affectionate, people-loving dog who absolutely adores cuddles and being close to her person.
Occy knows her basic commands (sit, wait, drop, out, shake, and more) and is very food-motivated, which makes training fun and easy. She responds really well to training and thrives with structure and consistency. She’s a smart dog who would shine with someone who enjoys continuing her learning.
She can be excitable at times and may occasionally jump up when very excited (this has improved a lot with training). When I first adopted her she would jump up but with training she’s improved massively. It still pops up occasionally when she’s very excited, but she responds well to guidance. She’s cheeky, clever, and likes to test boundaries sometimes, so she’ll thrive with someone who can be kind but firm.
Most of the time she actually walks really well on the lead and listens well. If we see another dog coming, we’ll usually cross the road and continue walking. Often Occy will walk past the other dog with very little direction and barely react at all, she’s just keen to keep moving. There are some occasions where she gets overexcited and might jump around a bit, pull towards the other dog, or give a small bark. She's not aggressive at all, it's all frustration/excitement.
Because of this, she would do best with someone confident handling a strong dog who can continue giving her regular exercise, structure, and guidance on walks.
Kids & Cats:
She’s good with kids, excited at first but settles quickly.
She has d with a cat and did really well after a slow introduction. She occasionally tried to invite the cat to play…and the cat respectfully declined.
Other Dogs:
She hasn’t had heaps of socialisation. She’s had good experiences with some dogs, been a bit too energetic for others, and was very scared of one dog (she froze and wouldn’t move). There’s a local dog she loves playing with, so she definitely has friendly potential with the right matches and proper introductions.
At Home:
She’s happy to sleep in your bed or in her own.
She can be left home alone and ideally should have access to outside.
She loves bones and a good game of tug.
After a solid walk, she’ll come home and blissfully nap.
Occy can sometimes get a little restless and may anxiously pace around the house, particularly in the evenings. She’s the kind of dog who occasionally needs a bit of help switching off and remembering that it’s time to relax. She knows the command “on your bed” and usually just needs a gentle reminder that we’re winding down for the night.
She loves chew toys and most evenings will happily pull one out, lie down on her bed, and settle in for a good chew. Once she’s relaxed, she’s very content to just be nearby and enjoy a quiet evening.
She’s currently on anxiety medication. I’ve been struggling to walk her consistently, so she hasn’t been getting the exercise and socialisation she really needs. My vet and I believe with proper exercise and routine in the right home, the medication won't be needed.
Occy is looking for someone who can give her the time, consistency, and love she deserves. She will make an incredible companion for the right person or family.
Occy would do best with someone confident, active, and willing to continue her training, she is a really wonderful dog with so much potential.
