14-month-old Staffy X desexed female
Seeking a New Home for Our Girl, Cypress.
This is hard but we’re reaching out in hope that someone out there might be able to help.
Cypress is a 14-month-old Staffy X desexed female originally rescued and rehomed through Dog Rescue Newcastle 12 months ago. Cypress has always been an outside dog for us. We’ve learned that white fluffy dogs seem to be a trigger for her. Fantastic with our kids 10 & 13 years. We have done extra training to stop her jumping up to her fav humans and pulling while walking. Snake aversion training also complete.
She is very affectionate, loves being close to her people, and enjoys the dog park, dog beach, cricket matches, and holidays with nil issues until a situation four weeks ago. Cypress snuck past our legs when the gate opened, and chased after the dog. Our neighbour lifted her dog up in the middle of it. In the chaos, Cypress unfortunately bit her hand. 😔 There are two similar dogs in our small cul-de-sac, and our street is very small with a high amount of foot traffic, which makes managing her triggers extremely difficult.
It was a one-off, but because of the layout and busyness of our street, we just can’t risk it ever happening again with those dogs.
We are completely devastated and doing everything we can to keep her safe and supported while trying to find a solution. We can supply kennel.
We’ve contacted over 50 rescues.
Response from Dog Rescue Newcastle:
“Cypress is on the list to go to the shelter, however it’s still at capacity and we can’t give any time frame unfortunately.
Regarding someone coming to assess, the assessment is done over a period of time and different scenarios, so it needs to be done at the shelter.
As Cypress has bitten a human, we are not prepared to put him in a foster carer home until a full assessment is done. We cannot rehome dogs that are deemed dangerous; this is the tricky part and why we have to do the assessment and determine if he is a dangerous dog or not.
Our shelter is a construction zone and as such we are running at a lower capacity as new accommodations for dogs are built.”
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. Please reach out if you may be able to help. ❤️🐕❤️
