Phoenix – 3-Year-Old Female Desexed German Shepherd Looking for Her New Home

This is Phoenix, a desexed female 3-year-old German Shepherd who I am looking to rehome because, unfortunately, I no longer have enough time to give her the attention and life she deserves.
I got Phoenix as a sur*****e present when she was 4 months old. Even when I first got her, she was already quite a timid dog, and over time she has developed anxiety. Unfortunately, because I didn’t have my licence and she was an unexpected addition to the family, we didn’t have the opportunity to socialise her as much as we would have liked or expose her to lots of different places, people and situations while she was young.
Because of this, Phoenix can be wary when meeting new dogs and people. With dogs, she can be a little unsure at first, but once she gets to know them, she absolutely loves having a play buddy. She currently has a dog friend who is a larger breed and whom she has known since he was a puppy.
She is great with walking offlead and won’t go far before she waits for you or comes back to you
She can also be quite cautious around strangers, particularly men. However, she has become comfortable with some people I have introduced her to and see regularly. She needs time and repeated positive interactions before she feels comfortable with someone.
Phoenix is very protective of her home. If someone she doesn’t know, or someone she doesn’t see regularly, comes around, she will bark and can appear intimidating, but it makes for a great guard dog. Once she trusts you and gets to know you, she is a completely different dog and can be a wonderful, loving companion.
Recently, I have also started taking Phoenix to the dog park, and she has done really well. On one visit, she played with another dog and was also great around a woman she didn’t know. On another visit, there were several dogs in the pen with her and she had no issues being around them. She didn’t necessarily play with all of them, but she was comfortable being around them. She was still cautious with strangers, particularly men, but was noticeably more comfortable around the woman. Unfortunately taking her to the dog park regularly isnt something Im able to do but when I get the chance I do take her.
Phoenix is also good with children, cats and chickens. I have taught her to chase wild birds away from the property, so she is very good at keeping them out of the yard. She is also crate trained and absolutely loves her crate. If she had the choice, she would probably spend most of the day in there!
The ideal home for Phoenix would be with an experienced dog owner, trainer but it’s not required but she needs someone who is genuinely willing to put the time and effort into helping her build confidence, she would love a big backyard and lots of outside time with you but would also love to be able to come inside and relax.
Rehoming Phoenix may be a long process, and I am looking for someone who understands that she will need patience and time to settle in. She may be quite wary of you initially and will need to see you regularly and build trust before she becomes comfortable.
I am being careful about where Phoenix goes, I want to make sure she finds a responsible and loving home that is the right fit for her.
I am happy to provide more information about Phoenix, answer any questions, and be completely open about her personality and needs. Please only enquire if you are genuinely prepared to be patient with her and put the time into helping her settle and build confidence.
