Barney - The sweetest little Doxi-Poo
Barney is a 6 year old Dachshund x Mini Poodle. We adopted him as a baby from a family in QLD. He is a very sweet tiny guy, just 5kgs. He is a quirky looking fella who grows a blonde curly mohawk and he brings a lot of smiles to passerby's when he out on a walk. He absolutely loves all people, all ages, all sizes and he loves nothing more than to sit on your lap for warm hugs, and scratches all day everyday. He loves to wear a jumper almost all year round as he hates the cold and loves to laze in the sun in summer.
He loves other dogs…once he gets to know them anyway! He can be nervous and will grumble, but he is the gentlest little thing.
He is nervous because he was attacked by a bigger dog when he was 2 and was left paralysed. After a $7K surgery he was able to walk again (amazing!) and has only had occasional stiffness and pain over the years since and he was prescribed autoinflammatory at those times. He definitely cannot jump like he used to, but that is a good thing considering his long dachshund body.
One problem that has lingered is that Barney has had toileting problems since the surgery also, and he needs to be able to get outside easily at all times - otherwise he needs to wear a nappy wrap inside – which unfortunately he has had to for the past year since my teenager got a cat, her support animal.
Barney will benefit from being in a home where his humans have plenty of time to help him get back to where he was with his toilet training.
He would prefer to not be the only pet as he gets lonely and anxious on his own. He currently s with a cat and they are pretty good mates. I do think any other dog he s with could not be too much bigger, unless they were a big lazy calm dog.
Sadly, I am unable to give Barney the time he needs and I think he deserves a better life.
(I am a single parent, working full time and my teen is high needs. It is all a bit much for me) The cat is an indoor cat so Barney can no longer get outside easily and it is not fair. I am in a rental home and the only solution was a Catio, but it has not worked.
He needs to be walked more often than I am able to, and I just want him to have a better life.
