Background: I’m posting this on behalf of my dad, in whom I have become legal guardian to after his recent health diagnosis and now with NDIS full time.
I took my dad with me for Fathers Day 2022 to see the litter of puppies that I was going to choose a new addition for our family from.. however, whilst there, dad couldn’t help himself (being a dog lover) but to take Merlot home with him the same day as I took her brother Snoop. At the time, my dad was retired and spent all day, everyday with Merlot by his side.

My dad was diagnosed with a cognitive health impairment in June 2025 and we popped Merlot into the dog kennels for 8 x weeks, then she has been with me/my family since Aug 2025 with the premise being us putting her up for surrender… however that has been a major challenge, with many too full to take on any new dogs. It’s time for Merlot to move onto a home where she can be given the love and attention my dad accustomed her to and our animals (2 x terrier dogs and 1 x cat) can return to their normal routine within our ecosystem/home.

Pro’s
. Great guard dog
. Excellent, non pulling on the lead for walks
. Will be a lounge slug with you (or bed, loves to get under the covers on a cold night/morning)
. Very gentle when offered food from hand
. Nice Natured
. Been around many kids aged between 6-18yrs
. Been around cats (may try to annoy/chase)
. House Trained
. Understands basic commands - Sit, Outside, Bed.

Con’s
. When left unsupervised for long periods of time, she can dig holes in the backyard and if food has been put into a bin (without a lid) she will eat out of it.
. Always wants to have a human around her, will be best in a home as the only dog OR maybe one other.

Summary:
She’s a great dog who is intelligent but didn’t get a lot of training in her early years. She loves her human once bonded and she needs the right home where she can shine and be herself. With our household having 2 x big dogs already, alongside my dad’s diagnosis and the surrender places being FULL, we can no longer keep her with us until a surrender place is available so I hope we can find her a new home on here 🤞 Thanks for taking the time to consider the gorgeous Merlot 🐕
